WHAT is WHAT?

WHO was F.M.Alexander

F.M.Alexander (1869-1955) was born in Tasmania, later moving to England after developing his Technique. He discovered how our natural postural mechanisms work, how we interfere with their functioning – compromising our health  - and developed a technique whereby we can stop the bad habits and regain our natural poise, balance and vitality:

IT IS A METHOD OF PSYCHO PHYSICAL  RE–EDUCATION

Our Natural Postural Mechanisms:

When we were very young, going into crawling and then standing, we learnt quite naturally through experimentation, how to use our natural postural mechanisms. We soon discovered the importance of using ourselves well – otherwise we were unable to get ourselves into standing and explore much more of our world : If the head is allowed to balance freely on top of the spine so that the spinal column lengthens out and the back widens (The Primary Control) then movement becomes a joy.

Watch young children at this stage of development – it is very clear that their head is not fixed but being left free to balance as they get the hang of this delicate balancing act – and the natural poise and balance that results.
