WHAT is WHAT?

HOW we learn the Technique.

The Alexander technique is a method of psycho-physical re-education: By stopping the bad habits that interfere with our natural postural mechanisms you can significantly restore their effectiveness with consequential health benefits.

Mr Alexander found that the technique is best taught one to one. The teachers hands encourage a specific quality of muscle tone which together with verbal instructions guide the student to release inappropriate tension and allow the body to become better aligned and balanced. The student learns to appreciate the practical implications of thought and its affect on muscular activity.

The benefits to be had from learning Alexanders’ technique derive not from the teacher directly (we are not therapists) but from the pupil leaving their own postural mechanisms to function more freely.

The technique addresses the fundamental causes of many cases of: back pain , neck and shoulder tension, breathing disorders , stress related illnesses and general fatigue – where mis use and loss of poise are contributory factors .

Sportspeople learn the technique to help achieve their potential and prevent injury. Likewise actors, dancers, musicians and singers consider the Technique an indispensable foundation discipline for their professional skills. Those interested in personal growth and development find the technique an important tool in escaping mental and physical habits that limit and restrict our potential.
